This 5-foot-long, russet-stained rod is carved from the bone of a dragon and covered in draconic runes. When the rod is activated, dark red blood runs down it, soaking the hand of the wielder.

A rod of dragon’s blood comes in lesser and greater varieties, as shown in the table below. These varieties differ in price, construction costs, and the maximum level of a spell slot or spell-like ability that can be recalled, as shown in the Spell Limit column of the table. These rods function only for characters of the dragon type or the dragonblood subtype, as well as for any character with at least 1 level of sorcerer.

When activated, a rod of dragon’s blood allows the wielder to recast a spell cast in the previous round. The speel’s level cannot exceed the Spell Limit shown for the rod’s variant in the table below. Doing this doesn’t use another spell slot. Only spells with a casting time of 1 standard action or less can be recast using a rod of dragon’s blood.

Wielders of the dragon type can instead reuse any spell-like ability of (up to the Spell Limit for that rod variety) that they used in the previous round. This doesn’t count against their normal daily limit for that spell-like ability.

The rod also functions as a quarterstaff.

Activating a rod of dragon’s blood requires the same action normally required to cast the chosen spell. The rod can be activated three times per day.
